Who runs the chapter
The chapter is run by a board elected from its membership, and advised by people drawn from teaching and from practice.
Elected
Board members are volunteers, elected by the chapter's members, and accountable to them for the chapter's programme and its accounts.
Chapter President
The President chairs the chapter board, represents the chapter to IAFIE Global and to partner institutions, and is accountable to members for the chapter’s annual programme.

Vice President
The Vice President deputises for the President and leads on membership: recruiting institutions and individuals across the continent, and keeping the chapter’s roll in step with IAFIE Global’s.

Secretary
The Secretary keeps the chapter’s records, convenes board and general meetings, and files the annual report of activities that IAFIE Global requires of every chapter.

Treasurer
The Treasurer keeps the chapter’s accounts, sets conference and workshop budgets with the board, and files the annual financial return to IAFIE Global.

Programmes Officer
The Programmes Officer runs the chapter’s calendar: the annual conference, the regional workshop series, and the webinars that run between them.

Appointed
The advisory board holds no vote. It exists so that the elected board hears from teaching and from practice before it decides anything.

Academic seat
An advisory seat held by a scholar of intelligence or security studies at an African institution, advising the board on curriculum, research and academic standards.

An advisory seat held by a working analyst or trainer, advising the board on what employers need from graduates and on the practical side of the chapter’s programme.

Rules
Chapters of the association run to their own bylaws, approved by the global board when the chapter is established. Those bylaws set out how officers are elected, how long they serve and what the chapter must report each year.
Every chapter files an annual report of its activities and finances with the global membership committee. A chapter that stops reporting can be dissolved, which is the association’s way of making sure a chapter is a working body rather than a name on a list.
